PIPE
Project

The aim of the PIPE project is to provide a social and technological profile for the clay artisans from the Nile Valley, based on the different types of traces that are encapsulated within clay figurines. The project intends to gain a better understanding of the technological process behind the production of clay figurines by applying pXRF and manufacturing traces analyses. It also aims to outline the identity of the craftsmen through the study of fingerprints, tracing the participation of adults, sub-adults and children in their production. The project further aims to get a better understanding of the raw materials being used in their creation, and of the use and purpose of the figurines by studying their typology and contexts.
